Steeples
03:05
|
|
||
My heart is a ghost town:
the streets are clear,
the people here are gone now,
moved down south where
the air is warm
and babies are born.
Your heart is a traveller:
filling all my vacancies with laughter
and pastures of green,
like the season's change.
Your ways are strange,
like you.
Your heart is a pastor,
teaching me how not to see disaster:
"The Master is near,
and he cares for you;
so what if you do?"
My heart is a secret
whispered in a kitchen when
the sweet scent of peaches and pie
makes the air a cure.
I wanna breathe in more
of you,
more of you.
You're not the one I wanted,
just what I need.
So if you don't mind the inconsistency,
stay with me.
'Cause our hearts are a steeple,
so thank the Lord for different kinds of people.
We will learn how to love Him more -
it's what steeples are for.

Confidence
03:09
|
|
||
I've been searching, searching for days...
Lost at sea and I can't find a trace -
a trace of you, a trace of you.
Where can I go? What can I say?
I keep trying to change what I know can't be changed.
But with you there's confidence
that I'll be free from the weight in my chest.
With you there's confidence, in your love.
So I'll try my best.
'Cause with you there's confidence
that I'll be freed from the weight in my chest.
With you there's confidence, in your love.
So I'll try my best.

Helpless
03:36
|
|

Keep your head above the waves,
and hold your breath
between the time it takes to save
and all the time you bought
trying to prove you're not
helpless.
You hold that smile and hide your doubt,
and pray to God
that they don't somehow figure out
that you don't know what's real
but you're afraid to feel
helpless.
But I've seen that water line recede.
I felt it bring me to my knees.
You'll make it through.
And I know you're scared and need to breathe,
but let the water wash you clean,
and know that I'll be there with you.
'Cause I've been waiting for the time to tell you
that I'm helpless too.
Close your eyes and let it go.
Face the thought that you might not be in control,
and hold your hand in mine
'cause it's completely fine
that we're helpless
'Cause I've seen that water line recede.
I felt it bring me to my knees.
You'll make it through.
And I know you're scared and need to breathe,
but let the water wash you clean,
and know that I'll be there with you.
'Cause I've been waiting for the time to tell you
that I'm helpless too.
I'm helpless too,
but I'll be helpless with you.
I'll be helpless with you.

Anemia
03:14

When all the competition has been won
and all the victors settle in to what they've done,
we'll see that no one really wins if we're all dying in the end
and we never had a reason to begin.
But I need something to get me through the day.
So give me stories, give me roles that I can play.
I need a brightly packaged prize, that I can follow to my grave,
because it isn't from my death I need be saved.
And give me rest,
because the wars I've won have left me tired,
and I still can't sleep
in a dark so deep.
So if you've got a light, shine it on me.
I can't be trusted with opinions.
I've got no iron in my blood,
and I'm still satisfied with pleasantries and hugs
from people just as desperate for some love.
'Cause we are tools of all the tools that we have made
as if the men who fashioned them were less afraid
of being left out in the cold,
as if they knew we weren't alone.
But I'm still lonely, are you lonely too?
If you're alone, I'll be alone with you.
But give me rest,
because the wars I've won have left me tired,
and I still can't sleep
in a dark so deep.
So if you've got a light, shine it on me.
Maybe I still have the strength to see.
